I travel with Martin, a Sudan Radio Service reporter based in Wau. We will collaborate on news gathering together during this trip and my visit to Abyei, later in the month.
January 1, 2006 was the day Abdelkader Belaouni entered into a self-imposed sancutary at St-Gabriel’s Church in the Pointe Saint-Charles neighbourhood of Montréal. On January 6, I visited Kader on the second floor of the rectory where he has spent much of the last 1100 days to avoid deportation back to Algeria.
Today, I had my first set of vaccinations. Initially, I planned on making an appointment with the McGill Centre for Tropical Diseases, but I could’nt wait the 3-4 weeks waiting time. I went to the Santé Voyage Clinic at Montréal’s Hôpital St-Luc, which has a walk-in travel health clinic. I waited about two hourse before seeing the nurse.
